PHIL CARTER FBCI
Business Continuity and Resilience Expert

Phil Carter is an internationally recognised Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Resilience practitioner with over 35 years of experience advising some of the world’s largest and most complex organisations. A Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI) since 1999 and a former global BCI Director, Phil has played a defining role in shaping the profession worldwide.

His leadership and expertise have been recognised through multiple industry awards, including the BCI Australasian Continuity and Resilience Professional (Private Sector) Award in 2017 and leading his team to win BCI Australasian Team of the Year in 2016 and 2017. He was also shortlisted for Business Resilience Consultant of the Year in 2020.

Phil has an extensive consulting background with the “Big 4,” having led BCM service lines for both Deloitte UK and Ernst & Young Australia. Earlier in his career, he served as a Board Director at SunGard Availability Services, then the world’s largest independent provider of business continuity and disaster recovery solutions.

As a recognised subject matter expert, Phil has contributed to the development of global standards and guidance, including serving as advisor to the British Standards Institute in drafting the first BCM Standard (BS25999), and the Australian National Audit Office’s Better Practice Guide for BCM (2009). He also advised the UK Government on BCM requirements for the landmark eBorders program, which now manages all entry into the UK.

In addition to his client and advisory work, Phil is a sought-after international speaker, published author, and media contributor, with appearances in the UK national press, BBC television, and radio. His career spans over 30 years in financial services, alongside deep experience in risk management, IT operations, information security, technology audit, and data protection.
